Craft Night and Bowling Outing

This week was time for another of Cara's monthly "Craft Parties" and we had the largest turn-out yet. As you can see from the pictures, they were painting small signs. Cara had made a sign with a monkey on it that said "Isaac and Autumn's Room." All of the ladies seemed to really enjoy the time together while Joel does "children duty" in the other room.

These times really have been very good for our family. They give us the opportunity to just sit and visit with friends and those who we have just met. It teaches us so much about the culture and gives us ample opportunity to practice our language as well. A special thanks goes out to all of those who endure such language practice with great patience attempting to discern what our true meaning is. :)

Then, as always, Friday was Family Day! So, we finally went to check out the bowling alley in town. We were actually very impressed. It was upstairs in an old building, and maybe could even be described as quaint (of course, I have been gone from America for too long to really remember what that word means, so that may not be very accurate).

The kids had a great time despite the fact that there were no bumper ball lanes. We did the best we could to help them get it down the middle of the lane, but we had plenty of trouble doing that ourselves. In the end, Isaac even rolled a strike! As we were leaving he proudly announced that he wanted to go bowling everyday! :)

And, last but not least, some examples of bad English. You may not be able to read the pictures because they were taken with our phone, not our nice camera. But, we will write them out below to help you out.

A sign in our elevator. Specifically, look at #2 - "Do not carry explosives or inflammable materials." Now this is actually quite humorous because at first glance we both thought that was completely wrong. However, after a quick visit to dictionary.com, we discovered that, awkward as it may sound, it is actually correct English. Who would have thought that "inflammable" is actually a synonym for "flammable." Our English continues to digress!

This is from a menu at a local "Western" (that term is used very loosely) restaurant near our home. As you can see, one of the entrees is "Curry Ox Tongue." None of us plan to try this dish, and I don't know if the English could actually be improved upon, but we thought it was blog-worthy nonetheless.

It is a conspiracy. I think Joel is paying people to vote...or perhaps he votes himself. :)

Tongue is supposed to be really good. You should try it if you get another chance and let us know how it is.
